The Panasonic LUMIX S5 II X sets new standards in AF performance thanks to a new imaging engine, featuring L2 Technology, as well as a new 24-megapixel sensor to deliver Hybrid Phase Detection Auto-Focus (PDAF). The S5 II achieves this via a new Phase Hybrid AF system that combines PDAF with Contrast Detect AF that provides 779-area metering, allowing you to detect and track subjects in difficult conditions such as low light and backlit situations. You can also use continuous AF during zooming and AF micro adjustment.

The LUMIX S5 II X offers some truly impressive features for videographers including internal 4:2:0 10-bit 6K (3:2) and 5.9K (16:9) at 30fps and 4:2:2 C4K and 4K at up to 60fps as well as HFR (High Frame Rate) recording at up to 120fps and Slow & Quick capture at up to 180fps.. The camera also features a new low-profile heat management system that allows for unlimited recording times (Requires USB-LAN adapter, sold separately) without having to increase the size of the body.
The S5 II X is also capable of 5.8K Apple ProRes recording to SSD via HDMI or USB, and ALL-Intra Recording. The S5 IIX can also support Apple ProRes RAW video output to Atomos, as well as wired and wireless IP streaming and USB tethering. All other features are the same on both models.

The S5 II X features a number of picture profiles such as 14+ stop V-Log/V-Gamut as well as a new REAL TIME LUT function. This allows colour grading LUTs to be uploaded to an SD card and directly applied in-camera, saving you time in post-production. Other useful video features include a Waveform Monitor, Vector Scope and Zebra Pattern, as well as features such as System Frequency (24.00Hz) and Synchro Scan.

The S5 II X is capable of 48kHz 24-bit when using the built-in microphone or external mic via the 3.5mm jack as well as 48kHz/96kHz 24-bit when used with the Panasonic DMW-XLR1 (sold separately) to give you a wide range of audio capture options whether you be shooting a single person talking to the camera, multiple subjects for interview situations as well as backup and/or ambient recording.

While the S5 II X hosts a huge array of features aimed at the videographer it is also a fantastic option for photographers. The camera is capable of high-speed burst shooting at up to 9fps when using the mechanical shutter and up to 30fps with an electronic shutter, making it possible to capture up to 300 images. Other features include a 96MP High-Resolution Mode (JPEG/RAW) and Dual Native ISO sensitivity to minimise noise and allow a maximum ISO of 51200 (204800 when Extended).

The LUMIX S5 II X features a new Active I.S. system to aid the user with challenging handheld shooting situations such as walking or using telephoto lenses. The system ensures smooth video capture by optimising horizontal, vertical and rotational correction and compensates as much as 200% (Compared with LUMIX S5. Focal length 20mm, when using S-R2060) when compared to conventional stabilisation systems.

The S5 II X offers a range of functions to assist with a fast and efficient workflow such as AWB Lock, MF Assist (available for both video and photo shooting), as well as a Live Crop function, that records video footage using the entire sensor surface so that you can crop 4K and FHD images out in post-production. Other useful features include a new easy-to-operate 8-way joystick, expanded drive dial, 3.0-inch free-angle touch-control monitor and large, 3,680K-dot OLED Live View Finder.

The camera features a matte black finish that has been constructed with magnesium alloy die-cast front and rear frames. It is splash- and dust-resistant so that you can operate in less-than-ideal conditions. There have been a number of connectivity improvements such as a full-size HDMI Type A terminal and high-speed USB 3.2 Gen 2 as well as a cable lock holder.
Wireless connectivity has also been improved, with Wi-Fi 5GHz joining 2.4GHz for quick and stable communication with mobile devices.
The S5 II features dual UHS-II card slots and supports Relay Recording, Backup Recording and Allocation Recording and uses the DMW-BLK22 (2200mAh) battery which can be recharged via AC or USB.

Unlike the LUMIX S5 II, the X camera comes with the ability to stream RAW video via HDMI straight from launch – no firmware update required.
